ECO OUTDOOR ADVENTURE PROGRAMS AT ROARING CAMP.
Year three of offering our Outdoor Adventure Program and Roaring Camp is still excited to share more intimate outdoor experiences with visitors by offering a new eco-adventure program that can be added to any group’s visit. Imagine hiking through an old growth redwood forest and seeing trees seldom seen by the public, learn about the various eco-systems of Bear Mountain from the redwood forests to the sand covered chaparral and experience, first hand, the wonders of a redwood forest. Your expert guides will show evidence of what was once a vast inland sea that covered all of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Hear about the life of a dead tree and how it becomes an integral part of the forest with its own living habitat. Plus, the new Bear Mountain Outdoor Cookout is a tasty addition to groups taking part in the Norman’s Trail Nature Walk. At Roaring Camp, now you can do more than just see the forest. You can touch it, feel it, taste it, and experience it up close and personal.
Norman’s Trail Eco Hike -- A Guided Nature Walk
Dedicated in honor of Roaring Camp’s Founder, F. Norman Clark, Norman’s Trail offers visitors the opportunity to ride the steam train to Bear Mountain and experience a guided walk through the forest back to Roaring Camp. The 90 minute guided walk will take visitors through a virgin Redwood Forest where they will discover native plants and see some of the world’s tallest trees. All hikes will be lead by Roaring Camp’s expert guides who will, through their enthusiasm and expertise, share their love of the forest and the outdoors with all who participate. Guests will utilize all their senses in their exploration of the forest and will even have a chance to taste some of the local delicacies. Participants will learn about the life of a dead tree and all of the inhabitants that call it home, and about how the land that is now Roaring Camp was part of a Spanish Land Grant once owned by frontiersman Isaac Graham -- the cousin of Daniel Boone. The hike is primarily downhill and covers about 2 miles. Ages 8 and up. Program offered by reservation only with a minimum group size of 4.
